What is Sports Massage?
Sports massage is a specialised form of bodywork suitable for both athletes and non-athletes to enhance performance, prevent and soothe injuries, and aid recovery. It involves a combination of techniques such as deep tissue manipulation, stretching, and trigger point therapy to target specific muscle groups that may be causing discomfort. This therapeutic approach not only helps alleviate soreness and tension but also improves flexibility, promotes circulation, and supports overall physical well-being. Whether you are training for a competition, recovering from a workout or simply have a few unexplained aches and pain, sports massage is tailored to meet the unique of all individuals.
What is Ayurvedic Yoga Massage?
Ayurvedic Yoga Massage has its roots within the broader Ayurvedic health system, the method that we practice can be attributed to Master Kusum Modak. Ayurvedic Yoga massage can be thought of as an holistic treatment combining deep tissue oil massage, with mobilisations, tractions and stretches, and has an emphasis on breathing in order to create a deep sense of relaxation and wellbeing. Every session is unique, as we adjust the methods and treatment depending on the wants and needs of the client. We also use a powder from the ground root of acorus calamus, a wetland plant in the sweetflag family. This gives a pleasant and exfoliating feeling, helps improve circulation and warms up the tissues. In our session we might work on a specific area in the case of an injury, or focus mainly on the upper or lower body depending on the duration of the treatment. Like Thai massage, AYM is a floor based practice, upon a futon in which the therapist may use a combination of tools such as their hands, arms knees and feet. We do however aim to treat the body as a whole, as everything is connected, and working in this way can help to ground you and create a deep sense of peace.
